He is wearing a knotted neck scarf with anchors on it and a string around his neck leading to his left hand pocket. He is wearing a white sailor cap with a small oval insignia patch on it. He is smiling. He is standing in a patch of daisies, nasteriums, and California poppies. The siding of a building is behind him. On the back of one photo is written "May 1941".
