Young Edward stands on the beach clapping his hands while watching his mother and another woman throw a piece of wood into the surf for their dogs, of which there are 4 mostly black lab-types and one spaniel-type. The women are in dark knee-length "bathing suits" and one is wearing dark stockings as well as bathing cap. Edward is in long overalls, long-sleeve shirt and wide brim hat.
