Description:
This is a digital photo of a hay-lake wheel left leaning against a Cypress tree so long ago that the tree trunk has grown around it. The tree stands in front of the old ranch hands' house at old Stinson Ranch which was razed by GGNRA in the 1990s. The last tenants were the family of Fred and Gloria Conradi. They had 2 grown sons and 1 daughter when they were required to move.
Notes:
The Stinson Ranch was developed by Captain Isaac Morgan in 1852 and sold to Stinson/Upton partners in 1870. Nathan Stinson who became the sole owner of the ranch after James Wallace Upton's death by marrying his widow Rose. The Stinson family sold their interest to Marsh/Nye partners in 1944 and they in turn sold it to George Leonard in 1956 and he to GGNRA in 1974. The Ranch was managed by tenant farmers till 1950s.
