A folder with 4 digital photos of the surfer's memorial for Kirby Ferris were downloaded from the photographer's facebook site. Kirby 1 is a painted portrait of Kirby as a fierce individual held in the midst of surfers lined up, done by Michael Knowlton, a friend and local artist. Kirby 2 shows a row of surfers lined up ready to go (there were 2 rows, total of 59 surfers participated). Kirby 3 shows the ring of surfers on the water. Kirby 4 shows the friends and family before the ceremony. The 2 with leis to right are Kirby's brother Rudy and sister.

Kirby Ferris is the first man to start a surf shop, Live Water Surf Shop, in Stinson Beach. his first store was at the 'Staples Building' on the shoreline Highway at Calle del Pinos. Shortly after in 1981, he moved his store at the south east corner of the building known as Avilla's Barn at 3448 Shoreline Hwy, and eventually moved to the center space of the same building. He was known for his forthright character and promoting surfing as the sport. He created and held the copyright to the famous no-shark logo. He moved to Oregon as a writer of right wing publishing, leaving the shop to his wife Millie in mid 1990s. After his untimely death at 63 from Lung Cancer, he was honored by local surfers at surfer's memorial. 59 surfers joined.
