While we honor everybody in these photographs, we would like to draw particular attention to some historically significant figures in this exhibit. In 1870 Nathan Stinson / James Wallace Upton partners bought a 1700-acre farm/ranch here. Upon the death of her husband, Rose Upton married to Nathan Stinson. Nathan willed his brother, Amos Stinson, 1/2 the property, and 1/4 each to Rose's children Archie (Judge) and Mabel Ida Skinner. Judge Archie Upton helped Amos Stinson to develop Stinson Subdivision 1, 2 and 3 starting 1906. Archie Upton established the Camp Upton tent city in 1905 around Calle del Sierra. Nearly broke, he developed the Charles Robinson Tract (1913) under his father-in-law's name and built a large house on the hill at Belvedere and Buena Vista with borrowed money from Amos Stinson. He left his 3600-ft beachfront property to the County Park stipulating that the beach be called Upton Beach (1932). Marge Airey was a descendant of the Thompson family. Susan Tacherra has been the Stinson Beach Pre-School's teacher since 1973.
