When Nathan Stinson died in 1910, he left to his stepchildren, Archie and Ida Upton, 1/4 each and 1/2 of his 1,637-acre holding to his brother Amos Stinson. Judge Archie Upton, who moved to Stinson (Willow Camp) in 1905, had already operated Camp Upton (Calle del Sierra area) -- a tent city with 3 dozen platformed tents and its own water system with telephone service -- on the land owned by Nathan. In 1913 he filed for the Charles Robinson Subdivisions (Calles and Patios) on his 58 acre-inherited property. Archie gave his 3600 feet of beach to the county to be called Upton Beach in 1932 as a gesture of generosity; however, debt ridden Arche lost his remaining 18 lots to the county for delinquent taxes in 1941.
